Outside Exhibits

See the RNLB Amelia last stationed at Scarborough. This 37ft Oakley class when in service, saved a total of 31 lives. The boat is complete with all original expensive equipment and her engines will start at the touch of a button. It is possible to board the lifeboat and look into the engine room. The history of the boat can be found in the wheelhouse.

Also outside can be seen a German armoured dress diving suit. This was used in the 1920/30's, most notably in the search for the sunken submarine HMS.M-1, lost with all hands off Devon in 1925.

Diving suit

It could be used to a maximum depth of 400ft but unfortunately, the joints became inflexible at depth so any real movement of arms and legs became impossible.

North Sea diving bell

A now decommissioned North Sea diving bell can also be seen, the bell was capable of reaching depths of up to 1500 feet.
